The French luxury crystal house Baccarat will be celebrating this year its 250th year. For this once in a lifetime event, the brand thought big. Hence, a number of events have been organised in France and across the world in order to celebrate its two centuries and a half long history.
Baccarat, 250 years old
Founded in Lorraine in 1764, the crystal maker named after its home town, will be celebrating this year its 250th anniversary.
Created after King Louis XV gave his permission to found this glassworks, Baccarat became an eminent crystal house due to its unequalled savoir-faire. Due to this, over the years Baccarat has achieved many commissions for royalty or heads of states throughout the world.
The brand now presents the public with the possibility of rediscovering its crystal masterpieces at the exhibit, Baccarat, les 250 ans, taking place at number 11 of Place des Etats-Unis in the 16th arrondissement in Paris. This large private mansion has housed some of the brand’s most beautiful and acclaimed pieces for many decades.
The exhibit is divided into five parts, each representing the brand’s different fields of expertise. The retrospective exhibition opens with a series of Harcourt glass ogf 1841 which remains iconic and still today adorns many tables. Visitors will then be invited to have a look at extensive collection of coloured crystal pieces, followed by masterpieces combining red crystal and 24 carat gold. Towards the end of the exhibition, the visit will focus on the precise techniques and the savoir-faire of the famous brand.
A heritage on display
To celebrate its 250th birthday, the crystal house Baccarat multiplied its symbolic actions in honour of its long career and success. Baccarat has released a book, published by Rizzoli, that highlights the brand’s history and evolution.This visual volume containing a photographs of crystal pieces, including unpublished drawings from the company’s archives invites readers to discover the world of french luxury and finesse that is Baccarat.
After having been a guest of honour at the famous english departement store of Brompton Road, Harrods, Baccarat has a window display at the Printemps in Paris which will be remaining there until August 23rd of this year. And for the occasion, Baccarat has developed some exclusive items.
The 250th anniversary of Baccarat will be celebrated all year long. The exhibition, Baccarat, les 250 ans, is open everyday, except tuesdays, sundays and on public holidays, until 2015.
