In seven years Chanel N°5 will be celebrating its 100th birthday. Despite its old age, this perfume remains the most appreciated and most sold in the world. Its brilliant path is the result of a unique scent but also of a myth created around this fragrance.
Chanel N°5, a creation, a myth
In the dreamlike and romantic world of perfumes, it is quite uncommon for a perfume to simply have a number for its name.
This singular name was born following the encounter of Coco Chanel and perfume designer Ernest Beaux. Both present on the French Riviera, the young woman requested that with his famous olfactory powers he create a perfume for her. Her wish was that the perfume would be tailored to represent her fashion collections.
His work finalised, in 1921, Ernest Beaux presented Coco Chanel with two series of perfumes, numbered 1 to 5 and 20 to 24. She chose N°5. By supersition the Chanel N°5 was launched on the fifth day of the fifth month of that year.Five seems t have indeed been Chanel’s lucky number as this new perfume paved the way to success.
The success of Chanel N°5
This feminin and elegant fragrance has remained an inescapable classic. Timeless and unique, this exquisite fragrance is nearly indescribable. Indeed, Coco Chanel never made an express request for the perfume to remind her of a specific flower. Aldehydes, bergamot, lemon, jasmine, rose…etc, the number of ingredients exceeding 80 has contributed to the myth surrounding this legendary potion.

That statement became a superb advertising slogan and a reason for millions of women around the world to choose this perfume.
